Wonderful Home Wanted For A Three-Legged Wonder Dog!

Imagine a sweet dog, all alone on the streets of Lebanon, severly injured, bombs exploding around her, frightened and hungry.

In the aftermath of the destruction, a group of kind and heroic people take her under their care and provide her with the food, water, and medical treatment she needs.

They fly her to a safe haven half a world away to give her a chance at a better life....any life.

She sits in her run at the animal sanctuary each day anxiously waiting for someone to arrive who will recognize how special she is and all that she has to offer.

She is the Total dog!

What are the odds that this dog could have made it out of a war zone in the Middle East to an animal sanctuary in southern Utah, healthy, happy, with so much love to give?

Please help Total complete her journey to a permanent, loving home. All transportation costs to get her to your home will be covered.

Total is one of the many wonderful dogs waiting to be adopted at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. She is a sweet tempered and very personable medium-sized mixed breed dog. Yes, she only has three legs (missing a hind leg), but you don't even notice it when you first meet her. She runs as if she has all 4! Who doesn't love a tripod dog? Dogs adapt quickly to life as a tripod and never look back. They don't feel sorry for themselves or inadequate in any way. They know they are special.

OK - so she has a peculiar name too. But that can be changed. Because she is a total sweetheart, Total is not all that far off as a name. She can be shy/frightened of some men so please be aware that she will need some help getting over her anxieties.

I met Total in March 2008 while volunteering at Best Friends and she immediately captured my heart and even more so when I learned of her history. Because of her spirit and outgoing nature, I was sure she would be adopted soon thereafter. However, I returned for more volunteer work in June 2008, and sadly discovered she is still at the sanctuary.

Please don't mistake me, Best Friends is a wonderful place...a place of healing and peace in a beautiful red rock canyon staffed by amazing and dedicated people. However, it in no way replaces a real home for a companion animal.

What a shame it would be for Total to have come so far and survived so much and never have a family of her own. Please consider adopting Total. If you can't adopt, please pass this on to someone who can or consider donating to Best Friends in her honor.

Thank you!

Caryn

Rescued Pets On Their Way from Lebanon to Utah
September 25th, 2006 @ 3:45pm(KSL News) --

Nearly 300 survivors of the war between Lebanon and Israel are on their way to Utah right now. 300 dogs and cats are being rescued from war-torn Lebanon and airlifted to the United States. They'll make their way to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab. The cargo plane is due to land around midnight in Las Vegas. From there, these war refugees will be transported to Kanab. Most of the pets were left behind by owners who fled Lebanon during the 34-day Hezbollah-Israeli war. When the bills come in the whole rescue operation will cost about 250-thousand dollars. Best Friends is still trying to raise about 70-thousand dollars in special donations to cover this mission. The pets will join about two-thousand other animals currently cared for at the no-kill sanctuary. They will be available for adoption soon. If you'd like more information on how to adopt or donate to this mission, visit Best Friends website http://www.bestfriends.org/

It's HOT in Utah

Thomas, one of Total's caretakers at Best Friends tells me that it has been well over 100 degrees for quite some time in Kanab. The heat, along with the lack of mental stimulation, and one-on-one attention is hard on the dogs in the sanctuary, especially at this time of year. Let's get Total adopted as soon as possible.
